Hey guys,
as we are becoming more users on the platform and some people are eagerly editing on the Gantt causing some chaos.
There is the read only option but that seems to completely turn the Gantt read only for all users.
Might it be possible to make that a group specific option, i.e., admin has write permissions, normal user is read only?

You're correct, this is currently the way this works in settings: all users are unable to interact with the Gantt.
I have created a task and put it in the system as a feature request to be picked up at some point in the future.
For now, a solution would be to communicate to everyone, or specific individuals, not to perform certain actions on the Gantt, as it interferes and/or affects your/the company's planning/formatting as a whole.
I will let you know when this feature is picked up for development.

We are communicating this quite fervently but there are always some eager, well educated people with the "I can do it all myself" attitude. (^_^)

Haha, yes, there are always those few, aren't there? Hopefully, you can make those few comprehend that "I can" is not the same as "I should" ;D.
Just a thought: you can configure Odoo groups such that they dont have write access on project task records. If they then drag anything on the gantt, it will give an error.
